Rough Rider CBs: Master the 'Backpedal to the Ball' Drill
Roosevelt Rough Riders cornerbacks, get ready to take your game to the next level with the 'Backpedal to the Ball' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets your speed, agility, and reaction time, essential skills for success in 11AA competition. Set up a 10-yard grid with cones and divide into pairs. One player starts at the 5-yard line, while the other player begins at the 10-yard line. The player at the 5-yard line backpedals while the other player sprints towards them, calling out 'ball' when they reach the 7-yard line. The backpedaling player must quickly change direction and sprint to the ball, simulating a defender reacting to a receiver. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving your CBs' ability to quickly close the gap and make plays on the ball.
