FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Shadow Box' Drill for 11AA Cornerbacks
Cornerbacks at 11AA programs like the Roosevelt Rough Riders need to be quick, agile, and able to read the quarterback's eyes. The 'Shadow Box' drill is a great way to improve these skills. Set up a series of small cones or markers in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have the cornerback start at one end and weave through the cones, keeping their eyes on a partner or coach who is holding a ball or flag. The coach should move laterally, mimicking a quarterback's movement. The cornerback must stay in phase, keeping their eyes on the coach and staying one step ahead. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop their ability to read the quarterback's eyes and stay in phase, making it harder for receivers to get open.
