Game-Changing CB Drill for 6A Programs: 'Shadow and React'

๐Ÿ“ Whitehaven TigersยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For cornerbacks at 6A programs like Whitehaven Tigers, mastering the 'Shadow and React' drill can be a game-changer. This drill focuses on developing quick reactions and mirroring receivers' movements. To run the drill, set up two cones 10 yards apart with a receiver at each cone. Have the cornerback start at the line, focusing on the receiver at the far cone. On the coach's signal, the cornerback must quickly shadow the receiver, staying within 2 yards of their hip. As the receiver cuts or changes direction, the cornerback must rapidly react and maintain position. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps on each side, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to quickly adjust to receivers' movements and stay in phase, making it difficult for opponents to gain separation.
