FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Dominance at DII-AA
At DII-AA programs like Brentwood Academy Eagles, tight end play is crucial for success. To improve blocking and receiving skills, implement the 'Box Drill' into your summer training. Set up cones in a 5x5 box with a defender at each corner. The tight end starts at the center of the box, then sprints to each corner, making contact with the defender and sealing the edge. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on proper footwork and hand placement. Coaching cues include: 'Seal the edge' and 'Drive through the defender.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to block and seal the edge, allowing the quarterback to step up and make throws. It also enhances their ability to create separation as a receiver, making them a more valuable asset on the field.
