Power Through Contact: A RB Drill for DII-AAA Programs
At FridayNightPulse, we're highlighting a key drill for running backs to improve their ability to power through contact. The 'Tackle Box' drill is a staple at top DII-AAA programs like MBA Trojans. Set up a series of cones or markers to create a 'tackle box' with three stations: a 5-yard dash, a 10-yard sprint, and a 5-yard cut. RBs will perform 3 sets of 10 reps at each station, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through the box,' 'Keep your head up,' and 'Finish through the tackle.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain momentum. By incorporating the Tackle Box drill into their training, RBs can develop the power and speed needed to succeed at the DII-AAA level.
