Tackling the Competition: Whitehaven Tigers' LB Drill

๐Ÿ“ Whitehaven TigersยทFriday, July 24, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Whitehaven Tigers prepare for the upcoming 6A season, linebackers must be in top shape to take on the toughest opponents in the state. To improve their tackling technique, Tigers' coaches have developed a drill that targets speed, agility, and reaction time. The 'Tiger Takedown' drill involves three sets of 10 reps: (1) a 10-yard dash to the ball carrier, (2) a 5-yard change-of-direction cut to the inside, and (3) a 5-yard tackle attempt. Coaches will yell 'Tiger, Tiger, Tiger' to signal the start of each rep. The key coaching cue is to 'stay low and explode' upon contact. This drill translates to game performance by allowing linebackers to quickly close the gap and make tackles in tight spaces, a crucial skill in the 6A division.
