Turbocharge Your Route Running: The MBA Trojans' WR Drill
At the DII-AAA level, wide receivers need every advantage to outmaneuver defenders. The MBA Trojans' coaching staff has developed a drill to sharpen their receivers' route running skills. The 'Quick Cut' drill involves three sets of 5 reps each. Start with the receiver at the line of scrimmage, then have them sprint 10 yards downfield. As they reach the 5-yard mark, have them quickly change direction (90 degrees) and accelerate to the sideline. Focus on the following coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands,' and 'Change of direction, not change of speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the receiver's ability to quickly separate from defenders and create space. It also enhances their agility and speed, making them a more elusive target for quarterbacks.
