Elevate Your Quarterback Game with the 'Read and React' Drill
At 6A powerhouse programs like Allen Eagles, quarterbacks need to be prepared for any situation on the field. One effective drill to improve their decision-making and reaction time is the 'Read and React' drill. Set up five stations with different defensive looks: man coverage, zone coverage, blitz, pass rush, and coverage with a safety deep. Have your quarterback start at each station and read the defense, then react accordingly. For example, if they see man coverage, they should look for a quick out or slant. If they see zone, they should look for a deep ball. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps at each station. Coaching cues include 'read the numbers' and 'react to the coverage.' This drill translates to game performance by forcing quarterbacks to think quickly and make accurate decisions under pressure.
