Maximizing QB Accuracy: The '7-Step Drop' Drill for Katy Tigers and 6A Programs
For 6A quarterbacks looking to refine their accuracy and decision-making, the '7-Step Drop' drill is a game-changer. This drill focuses on developing a smooth, consistent dropback and delivering the ball to the correct target. To set up the drill, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one player as the QB and the other as the receiver. The QB will start in a shotgun stance, take 7 steps back, and drop into a throwing position. The receiver will run a 5-yard out route. On the QB's third step, the coach will call out a specific target (e.g. 'left hash'). The QB must quickly read the defense and deliver the ball to the correct target. Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second break between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read the defense and deliver the ball to the correct target under pressure.
