FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Katy Tigers DE Drill
For 6A defensive ends, the ability to generate speed and power off the edge is crucial. To improve this skill, the Katy Tigers coaching staff has implemented a dynamic drill that targets the DE's ability to accelerate and change direction quickly. The 'L-Drill' consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Start in a 3-point stance, explode 5 yards downfield, then quickly pivot 90 degrees to the left, accelerating another 5 yards. 2) Immediately return to the starting position and repeat the movement to the right. 3) Finish with a 10-yard dash down the field. Coaches cue: 'Fast feet, fast hands' and 'Change direction, not speed.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to chase down ball carriers and pressure the quarterback in pursuit. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, making them a more formidable opponent on the edge.
