FridayNightPulse: LB Drill for 6A Programs
For 6A linebackers, dominating at the point of attack is crucial. To improve tackling and shedding blocks, try the 'LB Blitz Drill.' Divide players into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the tackler. Set up a 10-yard line with cones, marking the 'tackling zone.' The blocker will start 5 yards back, while the tackler lines up 3 yards deep. On the whistle, the blocker will sprint towards the tackler, who must fill the gap and make a tackle. After 3 reps, switch roles and add a twist: the blocker will try to block the tackler's legs, forcing them to adjust their technique. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaches should emphasize 'fill the gap' and 'stay low' to improve tackling efficiency. This drill translates to game performance by replicating the speed and aggression required to stop the run.
