Eagles' Edge: Building a Dominant OL with the 'Anchor and Slide' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Prosper EaglesยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Prosper Eagles football, our 6A OLs are gearing up for another championship season. One key drill that's helping them develop the strength and technique needed to dominate on the line is the 'Anchor and Slide'. This drill targets footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Here's how to run it:

1. Divide OL into pairs, with one player as the 'anchorman' and the other as the 'slideman'.

2. The anchorman starts in a 3-point stance, with feet shoulder-width apart.

3. The slideman starts in a 2-point stance, 3 yards off the anchorman's left shoulder.

4. On the coach's signal, the slideman slides to the right, keeping feet parallel to the ground.

5. The anchorman mirrors the slideman's movement, keeping hands on the slideman's chest.

6. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, switching roles after each set.

This drill translates to game performance by improving OLs' ability to read and react to defensive linemen. By mirroring the slideman's movement, OLs develop the agility and quickness needed to seal the edge and create holes for the RB.
