FridayNightPulse: RB Power Drill for 5A Programs
At the top 5A programs like Celina Bobcats, running backs need to be explosive, elusive, and powerful. To develop these skills, we recommend the 'Box Drill.' This drill targets RBs' acceleration, agility, and strength. Set up 5-6 boxes or cones in a zig-zag pattern. Players start at the first box, then sprint to the second box, cutting inside. At the second box, they immediately change direction, sprinting to the third box, cutting outside. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Keep your eyes up, stay low, and explode out of the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction, accelerate, and break tackles. It also simulates game-like scenarios, such as dodging defenders and making sharp cuts.
