FridayNightPulse: 'Rush the Pocket' Drill for 6A Defensive Ends
For Prosper Eagles defensive ends, dominating the edge requires a combination of speed, agility, and strength. This 'Rush the Pocket' drill targets those skills, helping DEs like seniors Tyler and Ethan develop game-changing moves. Set up a series of cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Players start at one end, sprinting through the course while maintaining a low, explosive stance. After completing the course, they immediately pivot and repeat the drill in the opposite direction. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. Coaching cues include 'Keep your eyes on the target' and 'Drive through the inside shoulder.' This drill translates to game performance by simulating the quick changes of direction and speed required to beat tackles and reach the quarterback. It also enhances DEs' ability to read and react to the offense's blocking scheme.
