Allen Eagles' Tight End Drill: 'Box and Release'

๐Ÿ“ Allen EaglesยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Allen Eagles prepare for the 6A season, their tight end coach has developed a drill to improve their players' release off the line of scrimmage. The 'Box and Release' drill involves three sets of 3 reps, with a 30-second rest in between. Players line up in a tight end stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart and their hands in a 'box' position. On the coach's signal, they release to the outside, keeping their hands and arms extended. The key coaching cue is to 'explode' off the line, keeping the eyes on the defender and the body low. This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to separate from defenders and create space for the quarterback.
