Power Through Contact: A Drilling Technique for 6A Running Backs

๐Ÿ“ Lone Peak KnightsยทSaturday, July 4, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the heart of a successful running back's arsenal is the ability to power through contact and maintain top-end speed. To hone this skill, the Lone Peak Knights coaching staff employs a drill that targets the RB's ability to absorb and redirect force. The 'Power Through' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: (1) a 10-yard sprint through a pair of cones, (2) a 5-yard change of direction through a small hole, and (3) a 5-yard dive through a tackling pad. Coaches cue the RBs to 'keep their eyes up, shoulders down, and knees bent' as they approach the contact point. This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to maintain balance and generate power through proper body positioning.
