FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Agility Ladder Drill

๐Ÿ“ Skyridge FalconsยทSunday, July 5, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A programs like Skyridge Falcons, tight ends must be agile and quick to create separation from defenders. To improve their footwork and speed, coaches can incorporate an agility ladder drill into their training regimen. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps each. Set 1: 'Ickey Shuffle' - Players start in a stance with their feet shoulder-width apart, then bring one foot out of the ladder and back in, mimicking the motion of an Ickey Shuffle dance. Set 2: 'Carioca Drill' - Players weave through the ladder with a high-knee lift, keeping their feet quick and light. Set 3: 'Lateral Shuffles' - Players shuffle their feet side to side through the ladder, focusing on quick changes of direction. Coaching cues include 'quick feet,' 'light steps,' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving a tight end's ability to create separation and make sharp cuts on the field.
