Blocking in Space: A Skyridge Falcons OL Drill

๐Ÿ“ Skyridge FalconsยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Skyridge Falcons prepare for the upcoming 6A season, their offensive line coaches are emphasizing the importance of blocking in space. To achieve this, the team is running a drill that focuses on footwork and hand placement. The drill, called 'Pillar and Pin,' requires OL players to start in a three-point stance, then quickly move laterally to a designated 'pillar' cone, before immediately rotating to a 'pin' cone, where they must anchor and block a defender. Coaches are looking for quick feet, proper hand placement, and the ability to transition from a lateral to a driving block. The drill is run for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between. This drill translates to game performance by allowing OL players to develop the agility and strength needed to block defenders in space, creating opportunities for big plays and wins.
