Finishing Touches: A Speed Drill for S Players

๐Ÿ“ Corner Canyon ChargersยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Corner Canyon Chargers prepare for the upcoming season, one key area of focus will be the development of their secondary units. For S players, the ability to finish plays with a tackle or interception is crucial. To improve this skill, we recommend the following drill: the 'Speed to the Ball' drill. Players will start at a depth of 10 yards, with a coach or trainer pushing a sled or bag with a weighted pad attached. The S player must quickly close the distance, using their speed and agility to reach the sled. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the target' and 'wrap up, don't dive.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching S players to quickly close the gap and make a decisive tackle, reducing the number of big plays allowed by the defense.
