Finishing Drills for K Players: Bingham Miners' Summer Prep
Kickers at 6A programs like Bingham Miners need to be prepared for game-day pressure. One effective drill to improve accuracy and mental toughness is the 'Game Situation' finishing drill. Set up 5-7 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 20 yards from the goalposts. Divide the kickers into pairs, with one kicker attempting field goals and the other holder. The kicker has 3 seconds to make the kick, then the holder must move to the next cone. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles. Coaching cues: 'Focus on the laces,' 'Keep your head down,' and 'Follow through.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the high-pressure situation of a game-winning field goal attempt. It also improves the kicker's ability to stay focused and composed under pressure.
