Kicking into Gear: A Pre-Season Drill for 6A K Players

๐Ÿ“ Westfield BulldogsยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 6A programs like Westfield Bulldogs, kickers must be prepared to perform under pressure. To build confidence and accuracy, we recommend the 'Target Focus' drill. Set up 3-4 targets of varying distances (30-50 yards) with a kicking tee in between. Have the kicker stand 5 yards back from the tee, focusing on the target. On the coach's signal, the kicker must kick the ball through the target, aiming for the center. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Focus on the target, not the tee' and 'Follow through with your plant foot.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to focus under pressure and maintain a consistent kicking motion. By incorporating 'Target Focus' into your pre-season training, your kicker will be ready to make the big kicks when it matters most.
