Highland Springs Springers WRs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Highland Springs SpringersยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

High school WRs at 5A programs like Highland Springs Springers can benefit from the 'Quick Release' drill. This drill focuses on releasing the ball quickly after the catch, mimicking game situations. To set up the drill: place 3-4 cones in a zig-zag pattern 5 yards apart. Have the WR start at the first cone, then sprint to the next cone, making a quick cut. After the cut, the coach or trainer will release a ball from the next cone. The WR must quickly secure the ball and release it back to the coach or trainer. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Release the ball as soon as you feel the catch.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the WR's ability to quickly separate from defenders and make plays in traffic.
