Unlocking Speed and Agility: The 'L-Drill' for 5A Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Highland Springs SpringersยทSaturday, July 11, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Highland Springs Springers' defensive ends are gearing up for a dominant season, and it starts with the 'L-Drill'. This high-intensity drill focuses on speed, agility, and quickness, essential for 5A programs like the Springers. To run the 'L-Drill', set up 5 cones in an 'L' shape, 5 yards apart. Players start at the top of the 'L' and sprint to the first cone, then immediately change direction to the second cone, and so on. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Fast feet, quick turns' and 'Stay low, stay fast'. This drill translates to game performance by improving a defensive end's ability to chase down ball carriers and close gaps quickly.
