Tackling the Competition: A 6A K Drill for Oscar Smith Tigers

๐Ÿ“ Oscar Smith TigersยทMonday, July 13, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Oscar Smith Tigers prepare for the upcoming season, kicking specialist Coach Thompson emphasizes the importance of building explosive leg strength and accuracy. To achieve this, Coach Thompson has implemented a specific drill for his kickers: the '3-Step Ladder Drill'.

The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. K's start in a 3-point stance, then explosively jump into a lunge position, landing on the non-kicking foot. From there, they quickly transition into a kick stance, planting the non-kicking foot and driving through the ball. Coaching cues include 'explosive jump', 'quick transition', and 'drive through the ball'. This drill translates to game performance by improving K's ability to generate power and accuracy on kickoffs and field goals.
