FridayNightPulse Training Tip: LB Speed and Agility Drill

At 6A programs like Oscar Smith Tigers, linebackers need to be explosive and agile to cover tight ends and running backs. To improve speed and agility, try this drill: 'Ladder Cuts.' Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Have the LB start at one end and perform a 'Ickey Shuffle' (quick feet, keeping knees bent) through the ladder, focusing on speed and agility. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, quick feet, quick feet!' and 'Keep your weight light on your toes.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the LB's ability to change direction quickly and cover ground. It also helps build speed and agility, essential for tackling and pursuing ball carriers.
