Spartan Strength: Salem OL's Summer Camp Focus
This summer, Salem Spartans' OL coach, Mike Johnson, is emphasizing a key drill to improve his linemen's power and agility: the 'Medicine Ball Tuck Drill'. Players will perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. To execute, players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive their feet into the ground, tucking their knees up to their chest while holding a 20-pound medicine ball. As they tuck, they should focus on keeping their back straight and their core engaged. This drill translates to game performance by improving OL's ability to quickly change direction and generate power in tight spaces. By incorporating this drill into their summer camp routine, the Spartans' OL will be better equipped to dominate on the line.
