Shut Down the Competition: Slaters' Shutting Drill for D-III Safeties
This summer, Fair Haven Slaters' safeties will be putting in the work with our Shutting Drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the quick reaction and closing speed necessary for shutting down opponents' big plays. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explode off the line, sprinting 10 yards before planting their outside foot and turning to face the quarterback. Coaches will yell 'Shut it down!' as players react to the fake handoff, emphasizing speed and agility. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and closing speed, allowing safeties to make game-changing plays. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, Slaters' safeties will be ready to shut down the competition come kickoff.
