Rice Green Knights' Flag Football Recruiting: Local Multisport Athlete Sees College Opportunity

๐Ÿ“ Rice Green KnightsยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the inaugural 2028 season approaches, the University of Nebraska's Power 4 flag football program, led by coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, is drawing attention from top multisport female athletes in the area. The Rice Green Knights, a D-II program in South Burlington, have a strong feeder system for the Big Ten powerhouse. Local standout Emily Johnson, a multisport athlete with a background in track and field, is now focusing on flag football as a pathway to a college scholarship. Johnson has already begun reaching out to the University of Nebraska, Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida, all of which offer verified flag football scholarships. Midland University, Nebraska, is also an active recruiter in the region. UT Arlington, while not yet offering scholarships, is in development and may become a viable option in the future. Johnson's next step is to create a highlight tape showcasing her skills and submit it to the aforementioned programs.
