Bellevue Wolverines RB Drill: Building Speed and Agility with the 'Weave and Cut'

๐Ÿ“ Bellevue WolverinesยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve their speed and agility, Bellevue Wolverines running backs can benefit from a drill that combines quick changes of direction with explosive acceleration. The 'Weave and Cut' drill involves setting up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, with the first cone 5 yards from the starting point, the second cone 10 yards from the first, and the third cone 10 yards from the second. The RB starts at the first cone, weaves through the second cone, and then cuts sharply to the third cone. The coach provides a clear 'weave' cue to emphasize the need to stay low and quick, followed by a 'cut' cue to emphasize explosive acceleration. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders.
