Quarterback Readiness: Skyline Spartans' 4A Pre-Season Drill

๐Ÿ“ Skyline SpartansยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at 4A programs like the Skyline Spartans can improve their decision-making and accuracy with the 'Progressive Read' drill. Divide the quarterbacks into pairs, with one player as the quarterback and the other as the receiver. Set up a 7-yard line with two defenders, a 'safety' and a 'cornerback', 5 yards apart. The quarterback will drop back 3 yards and read the progression of the receiver's route. The first defender to be beaten is the 'key', and the quarterback must throw the ball to the receiver. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, increasing to 5 sets of 15 reps as the players build endurance. Coaching cues include 'read the key' and 'throw with confidence'. This drill translates to game performance by forcing quarterbacks to make quick decisions and accurately throw the ball to their receivers in tight windows.
