Power Through Contact: RB Drill for 4A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Graham-Kapowsin EaglesยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At FridayNightPulse, we're highlighting a crucial drill for running backs at 4A programs like the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles. This 'Power Through Contact' drill aims to improve RBs' ability to break tackles and maintain speed through collisions. Set up a 10-yard zone with two cones 5 yards apart. Place a defender at the 5-yard mark. Have the RB start at the 10-yard line and sprint towards the cones, aiming to hit the defender with a shoulder or chest. After contact, the RB must maintain speed and burst through the cones. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Drive through the defender,' 'Keep your legs moving,' and 'Finish strong.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching RBs to absorb contact, maintain balance, and accelerate through collisions, making them more effective in the open field.
