Unlocking Speed and Agility for Bellevue Wolverines DEs: The 'Lateral Shuffle' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bellevue WolverinesยทSunday, July 26, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

In preparation for the upcoming 3A season, DEs at Bellevue Wolverines can benefit from incorporating the 'Lateral Shuffle' drill into their training regimen. This drill aims to improve speed, agility, and reaction time, essential skills for DEs to excel on the field. To perform the drill, set up cones in a zig-zag pattern, approximately 5 yards apart. Players start at one end, shuffling sideways to the first cone, then quickly change direction, shuffling to the next cone. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'change direction quickly.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing DEs to quickly close gaps and pursue ball carriers in a variety of directions.
