Boosting Kickoff Coverage for Bellevue Wolverines: The 3-Step Shuffle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bellevue WolverinesยทMonday, July 27, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At the 3A level, Bellevue Wolverines' special teams units know that kickoff coverage is a crucial aspect of their game. To improve their speed and agility, we're introducing the 3-Step Shuffle Drill. This high-intensity workout targets the explosiveness and reaction time of kick coverage specialists. Set up three cones in a row, spaced 5 yards apart. Players start in a 3-point stance, then explosively sprint to the first cone, shuffling their feet to the second cone, and finally, shuffling to the third cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'explosive start,' 'shuffle, don't slide,' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and overall speed. By mastering the 3-Step Shuffle Drill, Wolverines' kick coverage specialists will be better equipped to contain opposing return units.
