Quarterback Readiness: The 3-Step Drop Drill for 3A QBs
As the 2026 high school football season approaches, quarterbacks at 3A programs like O'Dea Fighting Irish must hone their skills to excel. One effective drill for QBs is the 3-Step Drop Drill. This exercise targets footwork, accuracy, and decision-making under pressure. To set up the drill, divide the QBs into pairs with a coach or trainer as the target. Each QB starts 10 yards back, with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the coach's signal, the QB takes three steps back, then drops back and releases a pass to their partner. The coach provides real-time feedback, focusing on proper footwork and a smooth drop. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to read defenses, maintain balance, and deliver accurate passes under pressure.
