Waunakee Warriors TE Drill: 'Box Out, Box In'
Waunakee Warriors tight end coach, Mike Smith, shares a crucial drill to prepare his 4A players for the upcoming season. The 'Box Out, Box In' drill targets the TE's ability to seal the edge and secure the catch in traffic. Set up four cones in a square formation, with each cone 5 yards apart. Players start at the center cone, then sprint to the top cone, making a sharp cut to box out a defender. After sealing the edge, they quickly change direction to box in and secure a pass from the quarterback. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Seal the edge with your outside foot,' and 'Box in with your inside shoulder.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly adjust to changing defenders and secure passes in tight spaces.
