Route Running Mastery: A Drill for 6A Wide Receivers

๐Ÿ“ Brookfield Central LancersยทFriday, July 10, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Brookfield Central Lancers football camp, wide receiver coach John Smith is emphasizing the importance of precise route running. To improve this skill, Smith has implemented a drill that targets the Lancers' top receivers. The 'Route Chain Reaction' drill involves three stations: flat route, corner route, and post route. Players start at the flat route station, where they must run a 5-yard out route and immediately transition to the corner route station, where they run a 10-yard in route. From there, they move to the post route station, where they run a 15-yard deep post. The players repeat this sequence for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues include 'speed to the spot' and 'change of direction.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and the ability to quickly read coverage.
