Unlocking Speed and Agility for DEs: Kaukauna Ghosts' 5A Training Tip
At the Kaukauna Ghosts, our defensive ends are working on a crucial drill to improve their speed and agility. The 'Lateral Shuffle with Change of Direction' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps. Players start in a 3-point stance, then shuffle 5 yards to their right, quickly change direction, and shuffle back to the starting position. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'keep the weight in the heels.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing DEs to rapidly change direction and pursue ball carriers laterally. By incorporating this drill into your pre-season training, your DEs will be better equipped to handle the speed and agility of opposing offenses. This drill can be scaled to accommodate different levels of athleticism and can be modified to include a ball or cone for added challenge.
