Waunakee Warriors Linebacker Drill: 'Shuttle and Fill'
This summer, Waunakee Warriors linebackers will focus on the 'Shuttle and Fill' drill to improve their speed, agility, and tackling ability. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players will start at a 5-yard line, then shuttle to the 10-yard line and back to the 5-yard line, before filling the hole and making a tackle on a ball carrier. Coaching cues include 'shuttle fast' and 'fill the gap.' This drill translates to game performance by replicating the quick changes of direction and speed required to cover tight ends and running backs. It also improves tackling technique by forcing players to fill the hole and make contact with the ball carrier. By incorporating this drill into their training, Waunakee Warriors linebackers will be better prepared to handle the physical demands of 4A football.
