FridayNightPulse: CB Drills for AAA Programs
For cornerbacks at AAA programs like George Washington Patriots, mastering the 'Shadow Stick' drill can translate to improved game performance. This drill focuses on footwork and reaction time. To set up, have the CB player start in a shallow stance, 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. The coach or trainer will hold a stick or cone 10 yards downfield, then quickly move it to a different location. The CB must react and 'shadow' the stick, staying in phase with the movement. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'stay loose,' 'stay low,' and 'react quickly.' This drill helps CBs develop the quickness and agility needed to stay with receivers in man coverage and anticipate routes. By mastering the Shadow Stick, CBs can gain a competitive edge on the field.
