At George Washington Patriots' summer camp, defensive backs coach, Mark Davis, emphasizes the importance of agility and reaction time. To improve these skills, Davis has implemented the 'Shadow Box' drill. Players line up 5 yards apart, with one player as the 'boxer' and the other as the 'shadow.' The 'boxer' performs a series of lateral shuffles, carioca drills, and backpedals, while the 'shadow' mirrors their movements. Coach Davis instructs players to stay low, keep their eyes on the 'boxer,' and react quickly to changes in direction. Perform 3 sets of 30 seconds, with 30 seconds rest in between. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time, agility, and the ability to stay with receivers in coverage.
