FridayNightPulse Training Tip: 'Boxer Stance' Drill for Linebackers
At AAAA programs like Morgantown Mohigans, linebackers must be prepared to defend against the fastest and most physical opponents in the state. To improve their agility and reaction time, we recommend the 'Boxer Stance' drill. Set up four cones in a square formation, with one cone in each corner. Players start in a low, wide stance with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they must quickly shift into a narrow, high stance with their feet together, mimicking the stance of a boxer. After 3 seconds, they must quickly return to the wide stance. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, fast hands!' and 'Quick to the punch!' This drill translates to game performance by improving a linebacker's ability to quickly change direction and react to the ball.
