The University of Nebraska's announcement of its inaugural 2028 flag football season has sent shockwaves throughout the Wyoming high school football community. For Thunder Basin Bolts athletes, this development presents a unique opportunity to compete at the NCAA D1 level. Coaches Liz and Katie Sowers will lead the Cornhuskers' flag football program. According to verified sources, the University of Nebraska will offer up to 12 scholarships for the 2028 season. For Gillette prospects, this means that Thunder Basin Bolts athletes can now focus on developing their skills with the goal of competing at Nebraska. Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida, also offer verified scholarship programs for flag football. Midland University, Nebraska, is an active recruiter. UT Arlington is in development but has yet to offer scholarships. Thunder Basin Bolts athletes should prioritize building relationships with these programs and attending summer camps to increase their chances of securing a scholarship.
