Kicking into Shape: A Pre-Season Drill for 3A K Players

๐Ÿ“ Soldotna StarsยทThursday, July 2, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the pre-season heats up, Soldotna Stars' kicker is gearing up for a strong season. One key drill to improve accuracy and power is the 'Drop Ball' exercise. Set up 5-6 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. The kicker lines up 5 yards back from the first cone. On the coach's signal, the kicker drops back and kicks the ball through the cones, aiming for the last one. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Follow through' and 'Keep your eyes on the target.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the kicker's ability to adjust to different angles and distances. It also enhances their ability to maintain focus under pressure.
