FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Hoover-Style TE Block Drill for 7A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Hoover BuccaneersยทMonday, July 6, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 7A programs like Hoover Buccaneers, tight end development is crucial for success on the gridiron. To improve blocking fundamentals, we recommend the 'Anchor and Blast' drill. Divide players into pairs, with one TE and one DL. Set up a 10-yard line with cones. The TE starts in a 3-point stance, while the DL lines up 5 yards away. On the whistle, the TE explodes off the line, using their feet and hands to 'anchor' the DL. The TE then 'blasts' forward, aiming for a 2-yard gain. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Drive your feet' and 'Keep your hands inside.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to block in space and create holes for the running back.
