The 'Rush and Recover' drill is a game-changer for 4A defensive end players. Set up a 10-yard line with cones, and have DEs start at the 5-yard line. On the whistle, they rush to the 10-yard line, then immediately recover and return to the 5-yard line. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Bend, don't stretch' to maintain leverage, and 'Quick feet, don't slow down' to maintain speed. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and endurance. DEs will be able to quickly close gaps and recover to the ball carrier, giving them a significant advantage in pass rush and run defense.
