Cherry Creek Bruins Tight End Training Tip: Route Running with a Twist

๐Ÿ“ Cherry Creek BruinsยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip is designed to help 5A tight ends like Cherry Creek's standout players improve their route running skills. The drill, called 'Route Running with a Twist,' targets the TE's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts. To run this drill, set up three cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Have the TE start at the first cone and run a 5-yard out route, then quickly change direction and run a 5-yard in route. After completing the in route, have them accelerate out of the second cone and run a 5-yard out route. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration. Coaching cues include 'stay low,' 'keep your eyes on the quarterback,' and 'accelerate out of the cut.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing TEs to quickly get open and create separation from defenders.
