FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Developing DE Speed and Agility at the LL Level

๐Ÿ“ Maloney SpartansยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip is designed to help defensive end players at lower-level programs like the Maloney Spartans develop the speed and agility needed to compete against larger, more experienced opponents. The drill, called the 'Ladder Shuffle-Step,' involves setting up a ladder on the field and having the DE player perform the following sequence: 3 sets of 10 reps of lateral shuffles through the ladder, followed by 3 sets of 10 reps of step-throughs (right-left-right-left) through the ladder. Coaching cues include keeping the feet light and quick, and exploding out of each step. This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly change direction and pursue the ball carrier.
