FridayNightPulse: WR Training Tip - Lakeland Dreadnaughts Style
For 7A programs like the Lakeland Dreadnaughts, WRs need to be able to separate from defenders and make plays down the field. To improve this, try the 'Route Runner's Sprint' drill. Set up 5-6 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 10 yards apart. Have WRs start at the first cone, then sprint to the second, planting their outside foot and turning upfield. After 3-5 reps, have them change direction and repeat. Focus on quick feet, explosive acceleration, and sharp cuts. Coaching cues include 'Stay low and fast' and 'Change direction quickly, don't slow down.' This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to create separation and get open down the field. Run 3-4 sets of 3-5 reps, 2-3 times a week, to see improvement in your WRs' route-running skills.
