Building a Brick Wall: A Drill for 7A OL Dominance
For OL players at top 7A programs like Miami Central Rockets, building a strong foundation is key to success. One effective drill to focus on is the 'Brick Wall' exercise. This drill targets the OL's ability to anchor and drive-block, a crucial skill in the trenches. To run the drill: have OL players line up in a 3-point stance, with a defender lined up across from them. On the coach's whistle, the OL must explosively drive their feet into the ground and push the defender 5 yards downfield. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cues include 'explosive feet' and 'hands inside.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the OL's ability to generate power and control at the point of attack, allowing them to dominate in the run game and protect their QB in pass protection.
