FridayNightPulse Training Tip: RB Power Through Holes Drill

At 4A programs like West Des Moines Valley Tigers, running backs need to be able to power through holes and break tackles. To improve this skill, we recommend the RB Power Through Holes Drill. Set up 3-4 cones in a line, spaced 3 yards apart. Have the RB start at the first cone and perform a 10-yard dash to the second cone, then immediately plant their feet and drive through the next cone, simulating a hole. Focus on keeping the shoulders square and using the legs to generate power. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving the RB's ability to change direction quickly and break tackles in tight spaces. It also helps build strength and endurance.
